Facebook making tech that lets people type using only their brains

April 20, 2017 | by: aaronarmstrong

At 100 words per minute, at that — I can only type 73 words per minute using both brainpower and my phalanges!!

Purrfect representation.

Facebook revealed yesterday that they’ve got a team of over 60 scientists & engineers at their top secret research lab to develop “silent speech communications” — Something that sounds straight out of a science fiction movie.

Over the next 2 years, they’ll be developing a system that will allow a user to type up to 100 words per minute — by “decoding neural activity devoted to speech.”

They hope it will one day allow people with communication disorders to communicate clearly, solely with brain control — five times faster than users can type on their smartphones & tablets!

…I’m a little nervous of the idea, though… We’ve all seen the movies where tech like this falls into the wrong hands… Starts with reading speech — next stop, knowing your deepest, darkest thoughts!

…If it can help me erase memories of the Batman Forever movie, count me in.
