K945 has confirmed with local baristas that Greater Moncton Starbucks locations will also be closing for training — between 2:30pm & 3pm today (Monday, June 11) until Tuesday morning, June 12.
Following the unprovoked arrest of two young black men in a Philadelphia Starbucks after they didn’t order anything, Starbucks Canada will be undergoing training similar to what the US chain has recently had done with their locations toward the end of May — a “learning session on race, bias and inclusion.”
Starbucks Canada President Michael Conway wrote in a statement “…On Monday June 11, 2018 we will close all our company-operated stores and offices across Canada for a portion of the afternoon, for partners to participate in a training session designed to address implicit bias, promote conscious inclusion, and ensure everyone inside a Starbucks store feels safe and welcome.”
In & around Moncton, Starbucks restaurants will begin to close between 2pm and 3pm, and will not open until tomorrow morning.
