K945 News — Inmate serving time for murder escapes Dorchester Penitentiary

Wednesday, February 7: Sackville RCMP are investigating the escape of an inmate from the minimum security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary.

At 10pm Wednesday night, Correctional officers conducted a count of all inmates & discovered 45-year-old Steven Budgen, serving indeterminate time for second-degree murder, was not present.

Authorities were notified asap.

Cst. Dan Hilchie reportsThe facility was searched by correctional officers while RCMP, with the assistance of a police dog, searched the surrounding area but Steven Bugden was not located. He is described as Caucasian with a fair complexion, 165 cm (5’5″) tall and weighing approximately 85 kg (188 lbs.). He has blond hair and blue eyes.
