So what’s the jam we’ll all be rocking out to and dancing around with this summer?

Who knows, but if trends follow, for the Song of the Summer, capital letters, just one, most years it’s already released by this time in mid-May.

So how do we figure out what the song of the summer is? We use math, if you’re the Ringer.

They did a bit of an expose on the idea of a Song of the Summer, based on a few factors – up high on the Billboard Hot 100, Blogability, Playlist prevalence and Quality.

And a couple indicators, first one being release date, which, again, now is almost the sweet spot. Songs released in April and May are waaaay more likely to be a song of the summer than August, cuz momentum comes into play.

Second factor is peak date, the date it hit the highest in the Hot 100, you don’t wanna peak too early.

We usually know the song of the summer in August or so, but we can predict a few – the Ringer says Despacito, the new single by Luis Fonsi with Justin Bieber in it, will be the song of the summer, based on this formula.
