Seasoned mediator and arbitrator William Kaplan has been appointed to try to resolve the labour dispute at Canada Post.

The federal labour minister says she hopes he can avert threatened job action by members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

The union issued 72-hour strike notice Thursday.
