Cooke Aquaculture Receives 3.2 Million in Funding to Combat Sea Lice
The province’s largest aquaculture company is getting 3.2 million-dollars in federal funding to combat sea lice. Cooke Aquaculture, based in Black’s Harbour, is also contributing 1.9-million of it’s own money to develop a process for removing the parasite from farmed salmon. The project will attempt to use warm water to remove 95-percent of the lice. It’s hoped the new process will provide a green alternative to using chemicals.
