Jail time for threats

A 49 year old woman has been jailed for threatening social workers.

The Times and Transcript reports Margaret Ann Gallant of Moncton was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty earlier to uttering threats, causing a disturbance,  and other charges in connection with two separate incidents. The main one was in April when she threatened to kill all social workers while on an elevator at the Social Services Department office at Assumption Place. The other incident was this month involving shoplifting at a clothing store on Main Street.

Her lawyer told court Gallant was schizophrenic and distraught after the death of her daughter a few weeks earlier.

The judge gave her 50 days in jail in addition to time served since her arrest September 9th. Then she’ll be on probation.
