Council salaries

As expected, Moncton City Council gave first reading to a by-law to raise councillors’ wages yesterday.

The Enhancing Democracy Committee recommended in April that councillors’ salaries increase by 35% and the Mayor’s by 20%. Just before the municipal election in May, council narrowly defeated a motion to raise the salaries then. Now it’s back before the new council.
