Underground Collapse at Picadilly Mine

A an underground portion on the Picadilly potash mine collapsed in late August but the mine’s management says they were prepared for it and no one was hurt. PotashCorp tells the Kings County Record that the problems with area of underground roadway that collapsed had been identified and the area was barricaded off when it caved in three weeks ago. Two other smaller ground falls were reported in June. Since the closure of the mine was announced, crews looking after maintenance during the shutdown period have been reduced to 35 full-time employees
