22-year-old Moncton man charged with first degree murder following shooting at residence Thursday

In a statement from the New Brunswick RCMP:

“A 22-year-old Moncton man has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting in the city.

On May 21, 2020, at about 9:20pm, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a shot fired at a home on Sangster Street. When police arrived, a man was located badly injured inside the home. He was transported to hospital, and later died as a result of his injuries.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at a nearby residence a short time later, and held in custody overnight.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

On May 22, Jake Mischiek was charged with the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Josh Daley of Moncton. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to Moncton Provincial Court on June 25 at 9:30am.”

If you have any information, or know someone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, contact the RCMP Major Crime Unit at 1-506-857-2400.

Note: A previous version of the RCMP statement inaccurately stated that the accused had been tele-remanded. He was held in police custody until his court appearance on the afternoon of May 22.
