2018 IGT Legs for Literacy

Mark October 21, 2018 as “Race Day” on your calendars for the 2018 IGT Legs for Literacy event located in Moncton, NB. Once again we will feature a 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, and team relay, with new routes, all starting and finishing on Canada Street, in front of Moncton’s new Downtown Events Centre. All race day routes are certified.

Race kit pick-up for Race Day races runs from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday October 20, 2018 at the Legs for Literacy Expo located on the mezzanine level of the Delta Beauséjour hotel. (Last minute kit pick-up is available at the Downtown Events Centre from 6:30 to 7:30 on Race Day.) All participants receive finishers medals, post race refreshments and free massage also offered. Awards will be presented for age categories.

Before the big day, kick off Race Weekend with the Running Room’s 3 km Friendship Run on October 19, 2018 (free) at 300 Main Street, Moncton. Next, our Family Run Walk (1 km and 2 km) will start from Downing Street on Saturday, October 20th for children 0 to 13 years and their family members. All kids will receive a race bib, medal, snacks and may pick up a book at our Expo. Athletics NB Run Jump Throw Wheel activities will take place following the races. Of course, please visit our Expo (11 am to 5 pm) to engage with sponsors and exhibitors, checking out the best that our community has to offer!

Last year approximately 3,000 runners and walkers participated in five race day events: full marathon, half marathon, 10k and 5k and Marathon Team Relay. Another 450 school-aged children competed in our Family Run Walk which encourages children at the elementary and middle school levels to make healthy physical activity a part of their daily routine. In 2017 we raised $37,000 for charitable contributions to local literacy projects, bringing our total to date to $710,000. Join us in 2018 for some fun and competition at the largest road racing event in New Brunswick.
